Sunday night at Crossroads at Grinders, located near downtown, was supposed to have an evening filled with energy packed music. Ska legends Reel Big Fish (www.myspace.com/reelbigfish) were scheduled to hit the stage about 10:30pm. However at about...9:20pm the previously thick humid wind, dropped 20 degrees to an almost chilly breeze. Roughly 10 minutes later and the hundreds of concert goers were running for shelter while massive rain drops and bright lightning came from above.
Though earlier in the evening, those same concert goers did get a chance to enjoy the musical stylings of a couple bands. The first of which was The Supervillains (www.thesupervillains.com), who have attempted to keep their version of Ska alive, with a mixture of some Reggae in it. Next was The English Beat (known in England as The Beat - www.thebeatuk.com), who crammed seven musicians on stage with instruments ranging from: guitar, sax, drums, keys and toaster (yes toaster). Now this band took the main theme of Ska and added their own spices: Pop, Reggae, Soul and Punk. The Beat ended up not only playing for an entire hour, but at least half of that was in the pouring rain.
Because of the amount of water that had eventually collected on stage through the previous performances and the risk of electrocution, the venue owner and tour management for RBF had to call the show. Of course much to the dismay of the hundreds of people there. Reel Big Fish has issued an official statement: "we'll be back to make this up to ya soon! hold on to those ticket stubs!"
