In many cultures, women are responsible for gathering food and collecting water for their families. But in modern times, the owners of our food production systems and those who control access to our water may be far removed from these women (and most consumers!). Women have a vested interest in who "owns" their food and water, because we rely on those people to keep the supply healthy and safe.
If the question of resource ownership interests you, too, join the MA Commission on the Status of Women at the 12th Annual International Women's Day Breakfast on Friday, March 6, from 7:30 AM to 9:30 AM. A panel of expert speakers will tackle the topic of corporate ownership of food and water globally and locally, as well as give attendees action steps towards buying locally.
Breakfast will be held at the Linda K. Paresky Conference Center at Simmons College (300 The Fenway, Boston), The event is free, but there is a $5 suggested donation to cover the cost of food. Please RSVP to Diane.Hammer@simmons.edu.
