To start this article out, I wanted to tell a story explaining just how it was that I came into contact with this particular brand of tequila. My wife and I had attended a local Pappasito's Mexican Cantina restaurant during happy hour and the house margaritas were discounted. I ordered one of course and was immediately impressed by the tequila's flavor. For the "house" brand, this certainly did not taste like your typical low-quality fare at many bars and restaurants. I asked my waiter what brand it was and he later revealed it to be Tequila Agavales' silver variety distributed by Mexcor here in Houston, TX. I have been a fan ever since. You may remember Mexcor from my previous grudge match article between the Texas Crown Club and Crown Royal whiskys.
Review:
When I first took a whiff of the tequila in my caballito, I noticed a light peppery aroma coupled with oak. This reminded me of my initial impressions of Sauza Gold tequila. The middle scents move to sweet citrus finishing with strong agave. The flavor's impressions were exactly the same as the nose of the tequila. Considering the $10 price tag of a 750 ML bottle at Sportsman's Liquor (no website), 115 Little York Rd, Houston, TX 77076 - (713) 699-0316, having it compared to one of the most famous brands of mid-shelf tequila that retails for roughly $18, this is quite an accomplishment. Tequila Agavales Gold has my highest recommendations to any budget-conscious spirits enthusiast looking for a good product at a low price. The best part though is that the buyer is supporting a local business as well.

Suggested Tasting Method: Neat in a caballito, chilled in a shot glass with lime and salt, or mixed in a margarita.
