Don't be in such a hurry buying up the generic brands that you miss a savings opportunity. The Walmart Great Value mixed fresh frozen bag of vegetables was 1.28 last weekend at the Porter Walmart where right next to it was the Birds Eye brand for 98 cents. You're feeding your family a bag of veggies a week, right? That's over 15 dollars saved a year. That may not seem like much, but a few more changes like that and it'll add up to one free week of groceries.
Can anybody explain why NOT adding sugar to canned sliced pears is more expensive than adding sugar? The same Walmart had Bartlett sliced pears in heavy syrup for 82 cents where the No Sugar Added was 94 cents.
The heavy syrup Del Monte pears is 44 cents more per can compared to the Bartlett heavy syrup? PER CAN!
Since your reading this I'm going to assume you'll join me in buying the slightly more expensive 40 less calories per serving Bartlett No Sugar Added offering at 94 cents a can. Let me do the math for you. If you're buying two cans of Del Monte heavy syrup each week and switch to Bartlett No Sugar Added you'll save 33.28 per year on just one product. I personally can't tell you the texture difference, but the taste is more thirst quenching. If you're hungry before bed you can drink the juice without feeling guilty and it will help fill you up. Cut the pears into bite size pieces and mix a can with a few spoonful's of low fat cottage cheese.
There is just under 50 dollars in saving for you in the tips above. If your on the edge of Harris county it'll save you to shop over the county border due to the higher taxes in Harris county. You won't be taxed on the unprepared foods, but you will save on the prepared food and other items you pick up on the trip. Also, I'm learning that many people have a misconception that Walmart prices are the same at every store. This is not true. I'll follow up with some examples later...
