I'm giving Sexy News of the week honors to NAACP Chairman Julian Bond and U.S. President Barack Obama for taking bold stands this week in the name of equality. In their honor, the first half of this week's Weekend Embrace is devoted to sex equality in the news:

Bond, Julian Bond! Don't miss Bond's earth-moving speech on marriage equality and gay rights at the Human Rights Campaign's gala awards dinner last weekend: Julian Bond: "I believe gay rights are civil rights." Related: LA Top News Examiner Sogol Tehranizadeh reports Same-sex marriage supporters can start collecting signatures for a 2010 ballot measure to overturn Proposition 8.

The change we've been waiting for! Props to Obama for reversing a despicable George W. Bush position – one of his last acts in office, and one I'll forever remember him by – by finally signing on to the United Nations' declaration to decriminalize homosexuality around the world. The declaration was introduced in December to coincide with the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights, and had the unanimous support of the European Union and most of the Western World at the time. For more, see my article BREAKING NEWS: Obama to endorse United Nations' gay rights declaration Bush refused in December
