The Stooges, who are hailed by many as the first punk rock group ever, were ripped apart in January of this year when guitarist, Ron Asheton was found dead in his Michigan home just months after he had finished a very successful reunion tour with the band. Fans speculated that this would be the end of the legendary group's touring days, as Asheton was not only the original guitarist, he was one of the most defining members of the band.
All that speculation changed today as frontman Iggy Pop came out and announced that the Stooges are currently rehearsing with former guitarist James Williamson for a tour that will happen in 2010. Williamson was the guitarist for, what many call, The Stooges' masterpiece album, Raw Power. The album has been cited by many, including grunge god, Kurt Cobain, as one of the most musically influential albums of all-time.
This isn't the first time the idea has been kicked around, mind you. In September of this year, The Stooges reunited with Williamson and mentioned the idea of a tour, but no concrete plans for rehearsals were mentioned. The band has said that they will rely heavily on material in which Williamson originally played on during shows on this tour.
So far the only dates that the band has confirmed they will play are May 2nd and 3rd in London, where they will play Raw Power in it's entirety.
