The Associated Press released a report this week detailing a collision between an adult elephant and an Oklahoma couple's mid-size SUV.

The elephant escaped from caretakers while being loaded onto a van at a nearby circus location. The animal reportedly had gotten spooked and ran off into the night. Soon after, 9-11 operators took a call from an eye-witness who stated that a car had just hit an elephant on the highway.

Emergency personnel arrived to find major damage to the side of the vehicle. The tusks had gorged deep into the driver's side door and along the body of the car. Fortunately, the passengers were both okay after getting side-swiped by the stampeding giant.

The elephant is recovering from leg wounds and a broken tusk.
