We don't know the name of the man who shot and killed one employee and criticially injured another before turning the gun on himself. News reports say they are waiting until family members are notified.
Witnesses say he was a "beloved" and "nice" employee of the hospital pharmacy and speculation is that he was going to be laid off in June. On the surface it appears that this nice, beloved guy just snapped when he found out he would be unemployed.
But on the surface isn't usually where severe problems lie. Seething rage--the kind that causes people to become paranoid and believe they've been treated unfairly, the kind that makes people know they are special and the world is out to get them--that kind of rage is not on the surface. It's curdling under the surface, just waiting to boil over to affect and infect others.
Is that what happened here? I have no idea. Maybe he really was a great guy who just snapped. Maybe he was severely depressed because of medical bills, foreclosure, divorce, death of a loved one, and the list goes on.
But it just might be rage that boiled over. Hard to tell. Maybe we'll never know. Or maybe we'll find out more with a news update. I'll try to follow this story and see what develops.
