Caylee in a family photo on cnn.com

CNN reports  that Caylee Anthony’s grandparents still support their daughter.

As a mother and a grandmother I can empathize with them. Not only have they lost their granddaughter, they’re also losing their daughter.

It must be horrific pain. But with unconditional love they are supporting their daughter. Some of us might rail against that. “How can they support Casey when she murdered their granddaughter?”

I happen to think Casey Anthony did it too. However, I can feel those grandparents holding on to the slightest hope that maybe Caylee is alive. If the bones found near Casey and Caylee’s home turn out to be the missing toddler, then the grandparents will have to deal with that.

They’ll grieve when they know for a fact that their beloved Caylee is really dead. Then they’ll have to wrestle with whether or not their daughter is the killer.

I believe the circumstantial evidence points toward Casey, but if she were my daughter I’d wear blinders too until the proof was absolute.

How would you handle this if Casey were your child? If the world thought your kid was guilty of this heinous crime, what would you think? If you thought your child was only guilty of being a lackadaisical parent and a neglectful caretaker, what would you do? Support her? Say to the world she’s guilty?

The conversation continues with you.

Just take it one gigantic, earth-shattering crisis at a time.
