We all know that being a mom is a life-changing event. You most likely thought of it as being a much simpler task pre-mommyhood. It isn’t a bad thing, as consuming and life-altering as it all is, we know it’s more amazing than anything else in the world, and the love for your child is something that can never, ever be conquered.
Looking at other moms, sometimes it seems like it’s always easier for them. Somehow they remained thinner, more energetic, more unaffected by the negative side effects that come along with the new dimension of mommydom. It always seems in our eyes they’re a better mom; that we’re failing in comparison. It’s a natural thing as women to look at another woman and compare ourselves to her. We’re programmed to strive to be the queen bee; it’s in a woman’s genetic makeup!
Something as allusive as the celebrity mom takes this to the next level. Don’t we look to them as being the prime example, the perfect and beautiful sample as what we should be? Many moms have the guilty pleasure of collecting “Star” and “OK!” magazines. Why do you think this is? There’s some kind of secret desire to see what they’re doing and how they’re coping under the stress of their lives. Why do you think the negative goings-on of celebrity life is a top seller over the positive? We’re waiting for them to stumble, to have something somehow prove them as being human, to make us feel that we aren’t so bad.
Look, these women do tend to make everything look incomparable to your own kingdom of mommyland, but they also have superfluous cash for beautiful wardrobes, personal trainers, housekeepers, nannies, gardeners, so forth and so on. If we had the same, don’t you think we’d make mommyhood look just as glamorous? Don’t be so hard on yourself. If you’re doing the best you can, you’re giving your child more than anyone else could ever give them: your effort and love. That’s all your child needs.
That being said, if you have a common guilty pleasure of spying on celebrity moms and seeing what’s going on with them in the current week, check out Celebrity-Moms on blogspot. Hey, seeing Jennifer Garner at the park in a hoodie with no makeup, and Brooke Shields taking her kiddos trick-or-treating reminds us of how they’re real moms too. And when you see them looking fabulous, remind yourself about the trainers, housekeepers, and other luxuries which allow them to appear so. Created by a humble blogger, “Celebrity Moms- Where Celebrity and Motherhood Collide”- is worth a look if you want to save on your “Star” magazines for the week and see how your favorite celebrity mom is doing.
