The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute has designated the first Friday in February as "wear red day" in support of women's heart health.
The day kicks off "The Heart Truth" a campaign to educate women about the risks of heart disease.
According to figures from the Centers for DIsease Control and the American Cancer Association, heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States, killing one in every four women. It killed approximately 315,000 women in 2006, which is seven times the number of women killed by breast cancer.
The campaign spans throughout February and seeks to raise awareness of the prevalence of heart disease in women as well as educate everyone on how to better improve their heart health.
