Overwhelmed at home? Is your to-do list piling up in this New Year? If you are trying to keep your resolution about not spending money by eating out, try some of these ideas.

1. Stock up on essentials. One of the best investments I ever made was in a chest freezer. It is a small one, but WONDERFUL. I can freeze so many items in there and if I would ever need it, I could feed my family for a long while without heading to the store. I keep individually frozen chicken breasts and tenders in there as well as ground beef and frozen meals. There is nothing to prohibit me from eating at home like knowing I have to go to the store, shop, then go home, and cook in a short period with two kids in tow.

2. Make double of at least one meal over the weekend and freeze it or set it aside for later in the week. We do this all the

time and when it is really crazy,

it is nice to be able to pull out a quick meal.

3. Carry snacks with you. I can guarantee that when we head out, my two kids will instantaneously become hungry. Instead of dropping money on small snacks all the time, we carry many with us. I generally put several in my glove compartment (especially in the winter when I doubt it will spoil) and can pull them out as needed.

4. Recreate what you like to get out, at home. I LOVE vanilla chai lattes, but that can be a quickly expensive habit. I found the Tazo mix at BJs and at Target for a little more than $2 a box. I can make it at home with minimal effort and it is the exact same mix they use (and sell) at Starbucks for a lot more.

5. Sometimes you just need a break. Eating out does not have to be expensive. The Genuardi's by me has $5 nightly dinners. I would not say they are complete dinners, but throw in some frozen or fresh veggies and you have a really quick meal. If you want to, you can even eat in their café and add a few extras for a complete meal out.

A sample week:

Monday - pizza ($5.99 if you only get one)
Tuesday - meatloaf
Wednesday - rotisserie chicken
Thursday - East Coast hoagie
Friday - weekly special
Saturday/ Sunday - pizza

Sam's club also carries rotisserie chicken for about $5 as do several other grocery stores.
