A Pennsylvania school tossed 5,000 H1N1 vaccines after the cooler the vaccines were in dipped well below the recommended storage temperatures.
According to a CNN report, the Stroudsburg Area School District in the Poconos* had stored the shot on Friday at the correct temperatures, but Saturday morning the temperatures dropped and the vaccine were declared unusable by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
*Initially it was errantly reported the district involved was the Lampeter-Strasburg School District. We apologize for the error.
Thirty million vaccines have been released in the United States, but many areas are still reporting significantly higher demand for the vaccines.
