The 111th Congress: New faces, same places and different cases
The incoming Congress, the 111
th to be exact, came in today with a whole lot of controversy, quite a lot of fanfare and not too much order, in the way of business.
From an appointed successor to our newly elected President, both from Illinois, who may or may not get seated, to an on-going fight for supremacy in Minnesota. The upcoming opening of opportunity, in New York, to the new and distinguished leadership of chamber ruling and guidance, the Arnold Benedict of party loyalty, all the way down to who will blame who for what and when? And all this, only represents the United States Senate!
A House divided, though with a lot more Democrats than Republicans, faces the 435 members, excuse me 434 members, of the United States House of Representatives. (Former Rep. Rahm Emmanuel of Illinois, relinquished his seat to become Chief of Staff for President-Elect Barack Obama) The make-up, of the body, may be decided, however the issues remain tough, in regards to decisions, based on what is the best and most productive policy, for the people of this great country. From Foreign affairs to domestic tranquility, the new class of Congress will have possibly, the hardest fought and publicly scrutinized voting sessions,’ of their political lives. Therefore, it will be equally important, that our leadership in the White House be as tough and like minded, as the duly elected folk from across this Country.
January 20, 2009, may mark a historic occasion in electoral politics, however the significance beyond this date, will be a mark of greatness, dependent on how well, we as a people, come out of this economic time of suffrage and move beyond this continued history of political punditry and partisan pettiness. In a time of foreign fallacy and Islamic-regime uprisings, we as a Nation, if no time ever before, must now come together as one, and represent the unique qualities of a nation, free of restraints, seeking freedom, justice and equality, not only for our communities and families, but for those abroad, who do not have the distinct opportunity, of living in a democratic society.
The significance of the first African-American President of the United States of America, only means something, if we as a people, can come together under one united flag of freedom, waving our independence, through the shrill winds of a divided electorate, seeking ‘Change’ in a land filled with potential and opportunities, unbeknownst to those who have yet to realize that differences of opinions, when agreed upon with known disagreement, can only lead to understandings of values and principles, guiding us to the greatest modern wealth known to man, Independence!
Dale’s Daily Dose: “Ask not, what your Country can do for you, but yet what can you do, for your Country!” – John F. Kennedy(JFK) , 35th President of the United States of America
