The Israeli–Palestinian conflict: The politics of Palestine’s past, present and party!
As I strolled up to the site, coffee in tow, I heard the consistent chant of “What do we want, Peace; when do we want it, Now; who do we want it for, Palestine!” I began to see the protestors, the signs and Palestinian flags being waved and the traffic nearby, backed up with rubber-necking drivers, interested more in what was happening on the sidewalks, then to what was in happening in front of them. However, as I began taking notes and pictures of this passionate protest, I realized the enormous size of a War-driven opposition, which is usually led by 10-15 dedicated liberalistic ’Sheehans’. (No offense to Cindy or protestors) However, this recent attack by Israel, pissing off many, possibly going beyond their means, and being exposed for their politically-driven insurgence, has led to organized rallies all over the world, not just here in America.
The recent air-strike attack by Israel, on the Palestinian population, began at approximately 11:30 A.M., this past Saturday December 27. The barrage of bombs, ordered by Israel’s acting Prime Minister, Tzipi Livini, has thus far brought about over 400 Palestinian casualties (with less than 10 Israeli deaths), while bringing tremendous turmoil to this land, already driven into political poverty. A country ravaged by post-Hamas winning elections, which ultimately lead to global obscurity and regional apartheid. Now with a ‘retaliated attack’ by Hamas, Israel has justified its latest campaign of terror, on the internationally rejected government, “of Islamic insurgents”?
“This latest attack is just a final attempt, from a disgruntled Bush administration, to leave office, viewed as a positive War President, with a failed record of foreign affairs,” says Betsy Oakes, a teacher at Loyola College and an active member of the All People’s Congress. She goes on to state that this latest Israeli attack is “criminal and financed by its United States allies, with their F-14 bombers and Apache helicopters.”
This sentiment is felt by many, who have yet to wrap their hands around the reason of this latest attempt, to thwart a Hamas government, who has yet to denounce their belief in the annihilation of Israel and their right to exist. However, this is far from a justified reason of retaliation, based on the historic fact that this land once belonged solely to the Palestinians, before the migration of a Jewish settlement, following the outrageous atrocity of the Hitler-led holocaust. In fact, if you look at the facts surrounding these stages of events, over the past century, it sounds almost like another event of historic importance and disgust, slavery and the stolen land of American Indians, right here in the U.S. of A.
However, my readers know me to give the facts of events and historic relevance to the articles I provide, through this venue, therefore my opinions are held back, due to the proliferation of thought/belief driven journalists, who rather give their political insights, then to give an actual fact based story of unbiased opinion, for the readers’ to access. I was once told that opinions are like anal holes, everyone has them and they all stink, therefore as my beliefs are exactly that, mine, the viewers’ of this page surely believe that their beliefs are the only ones that matter, therefore I’ll stick to the facts!
When we look at the possible political reasons of such actions, you could either look at the local domestic factor, of an outgoing President and his pathetically pounded party, of GOP minorities, or take a look at the upcoming February elections, for the next Israeli Prime Minister. A three-way race for the top spot, in a land full of angst and political malaise, this upcoming electoral process, which may see more voters’ sitting this race out, due to continued apathy, of an extensive and continuously corrupt democratic process. While the democratically elected Palestinian legislative body continues to be led by Hamas, with its PLO leader Mahmoud Abbas being a Fatah member, the Palestinian land of freedom will continue in turmoil until their next election, either replacing Mr. Abbas or Hamas.
Minister Heber Brown, pastor of the Pleasant Hope Baptist Church, youth advocate and leader, as well one of this City’s most outspoken critics of global apartheid and genocides, despite the region, told us that this current episode of arrogance by Israel needs to come to an end, and soon. He states that when the dust settles, we will find out just how much America financed this escapade of violence.
“In a City with a reduction in the rate of homicides this year, presently standing at approximately 232, the death toll of Palestinians has surpassed that number in three days of turmoil,” says Reverend Brown. “A death is a death, despite the region, race, religion, color or political alliance one may be or hold; we need to be looking at the root not the symptoms of the problem and begin to effectively address the needs of all the parties involved!”
The bloodshed in this region has continued throughout the decades despite the multiple attempts by different Prime Ministers’ and sitting U.S. Presidents’. In a time of transition, for the incoming Obama administration, this Israeli resistance shall surely overcome, his first few weeks or possibly months, of Presidential prowess. The debated tactic of the rocket rifling Hamas, compared to the missile based attacks of Israeli fighter jets, need to cease, while talks continue on open borders, not more warfare. The arrogance of Israel’s first Prime Minister, David Ben-Gurion, who predicted over 60 years ago, that the forcing of Palestinians from their land would be no sweat, due to the elder(s) dying over time and the younger ones, forgetting the massacres and their claim to this land.
However survivors ‘don’t forget’ and a lasting solution is needed in this misery-torn region, yet it cannot be forged during time of political unrest. As long as an imperialist bully, known as Israel, has the complete backing of America with no questions asked, formulated by a global propaganda of patriotism, aimed at the elimination of the people of Palestine, and all those who choose not to support and/or agree with, our Western civilized philosophy, of a democratic process, things will never change and a true cease-fire will never be upheld. Even still, to those who entertain the process and ultimately beat us at our own game, by winning these electoral elections, they should be allowed to hold and run their own-styled form of government and not be penalized for their beliefs, even if they do, go contrary to the beliefs of American society.
Remember, beliefs are the ‘stinkers’ that everyone has and is surely entitled to, yet to America that apparently applies only, if you are a resident, in the “Land of the Free”! I guess it does not extend to others across the globe, huh?
