  Michael Jackson/AP

Michael Jackson's doctor, Dr. Conrad Murray gave Jackson multiple sedatives along with a powerful anesthetic hours before his death, according to a law enforcement official, who spoke anonymously because the investigation is ongoing .

Murray was in Jackson's home when he administered the drugs.  Murray told the investigators that Jackson stopped breathing, and he was unable to revive him.

The type of sedatives Murray gave Jackson were benzodiazepines which can intensify how the anesthetic propofol depresses breathing.  Giving the proper dosage can be difficult and can be lethal if not done correctly.  Benzodiazepines are antianxiety drugs such as Valium, Ativan, Versed and Zanax

According to Dr. Richard Clark, director of the division of medical toxicology at the University of California, San Diego, if the results show "a bunch of stuff together, unless one of them is sky high it's going to be really tough to give the cause of death to one drug."

Murray has not been classified as a suspect.  Murray's attorney, Ed Chernoff wrote in a statement, "We are not going to be responding to any accusations from any unnamed sources."   He called the assertion that Murray gave Jackson multiple drugs, "ridiculous".
