November is National Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month.

There are lots of things going on in November, and National Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month is one of the most important things to remember. The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (Pancan) is focused on increasing the number of people who know about pancreatic cancer so we can all fight it and end it. Grandparents and parents know all too well that pancreatic cancer can hit anyone at anytime -- and increasing awareness is our best way to raise money for research to find a cure.

If you know someone who has suffered from this disease, then you know how devastating it can be.

The November campaign slogan is: "Know it. Fight it. End it."

That's exactly what we need every grandparent, parent, and adult in Richmond and the surrounding communities to communicate to their friends and neighbors. It's important to get involved with the local Richmond Pancan organization to help raise awareness and money to end the disease.

Ways to Increase Awareness

Here are some effective ways you can help increase awareness and fight for life:

  • Learn more about the disease by participating in the pancreatic cancer online game which can be found at www.knowitfightitendit.org. Pancan has included important facts and information to educate everyone about the disease.
  • Get involved with our local Pancan affiliate. Visit this website for the Richmond affiliate information. Sheryl Taylor is the Richmond Pancan affiliate representative and you can reach her at staylor@pancanvolunteer.org.  All others can locate local Pancan Representatives on the Pancan website by simply entering your zip code or state.
  • Ask your U.S. Representative to co-sponsor the Eshoo-Brown-Waite Pancreatic Cancer Research and Education Act (H.R. 745). Encouraging sponsorship of this legislation will provide the National Cancer Institute (NCI) with tools to make sure progress in the fight against pancreatic cancer continues. Simply follow this link, input your zip code, and information about your U.S. Representative (Eric Cantor in Virginia) and other information will be provided for easy, online communication.
  • Give back with a hug. Tempur-Pedic is fighting pancreatic cancer with the new Hugs Back Teddy Bear campaign. When you purchase this teddy bear, net proceeds from the sale of each bear goes to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Just visit Tempur-Pedic Teddy Bear.
  • Create your own personal fundraising page online. It's quick and easy and it's a way for you to personally become involved in the efforts to increase awareness.

All adults are encouraged to communicate this important message as broadly as possible. Grandparents and parents have a huge network of people and making them all aware of the importance of National Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month in November is vital.

Spread the word and help save a life.

And don't forget to donate to Pancan today.
