Since writing my book, The World I Imagine: A creative manual for ending poverty and building peace, I’ve collected information on various peace groups in southern Arizona. Despite being a "red" state, Arizona is home to a large number of people who do not believe that war is the solution to disagreements between human beings. Following is a list of groups that serve the Arizona area, along with a little bit of information about each one, mostly taken from the groups’ own websites:

UNITED FOR PEACE & JUSTICE

"United for Peace and Justice is a coalition of more than 1400 local and national groups throughout the United States who have joined together to protest the immoral and disastrous Iraq War and oppose our government's policy of permanent warfare and empire-building.

"We welcome the participation of any and all national, regional and local groups who share our goals and wish to work with others."

The home page of UFPJ features a list of various groups (including web links) throughout the country dedicated to peace and justice.

ARIZONA ALLIANCE FOR PEACE & JUSTICE

"Arizona Alliance for Peace & Justice is committed to working toward peaceful and just solutions to terrorism and violence as we seek reconciliation with our brothers and sisters around the world."

"AAPJ meets the second and fourth Sunday of the month at Tempe Friends Meeting House, 318 East 15th Street in Tempe."

"The second Sunday is an Organizing Committee Meeting that reviews business and coordinates the planning of events. The fourth Sunday is an Educational Meeting devoted to specific topics. The time for all the meetings is 5:00 p.m., often there are other committee meetings at 3:30 p.m. in both locations prior to the meetings proper."

The home page of AAPJ features a list of various groups (including web links) in the Phoenix and Tucson areas dedicated to peace and justice.
