Three big high school shows kick off this weekend, two of them going for a multiple weekend run. In addition to the high school season getting hot and heavy, local companies begin to peer through the horizon with their special holiday offerings. Jolly Ol' St. Nick has been memorizing his lines and checking them twice. So here we go with more weekly offerings of theatre events in the South Bay and beyond...

The William C. Overfelt Royal Theatre Company presents:
"Murder at the Prom"
Written by Peter DePietro.

The interactive, audience participation murder mystery makes its way to Overfelt, as Ms. Cranston, Overfelt's principal, is mysteriously murdered at the prom. Wild and crazy situations and characters rule prom night, with the play taking place all over the theatre. Come by and help the characters figure out "whodunit."

W.C. Overfelt High School is located at 1835 Cunningham Ave, San Jose, CA 95122
The show opens on Thursday, Nov. 12th, and continues on Nov. 13th and 14th. All shows begin at 7 pm. A special matinee takes place on Friday, Nov. 13th at 4:00. General admission tickets are $7 and can be purchased at the door. The student director for the show is senior Carolina Garcia. Call 408-347-5900 for more information.

Menlo-Atherton High School International Thespians present:

"The Rimers of Eldritch"
Set in a dying Midwestern town in the late 1960’s, "Rimers" explores the many faces of small-town America, providing rich characters for the audience to ponder. Told in a series of flashbacks, the play focuses on tightly held social and religious values and biases among the characters, with its denoument revealing a single, startling event that highlights the town's hypocrisy. PG-13 for mature content.
The show takes place on Nov. 13, 14 and 19, 20, 21
All shows take place at 7:30 pm, while Saturdays offer at matinee at 2:00 pm

Written by Langford Wilson, the show is directed by supervising instructor Mandy Peoples and assistant directed by student Michael Farzi.

Production will be held in the recently opened M-A Performing Arts Center
555 Middlefield Road, Atherton, CA 94027, Tickets are sold at the door and are priced at $10 for adults and $8 for students and staff.

BACKSTAGE BUZZ

Due to the popularity of The Tabard Theatre Company's "A Taffeta Wedding," the show has been extended for one weekend. Shows which normally run Fridays through Sundays go through a slightly modified schedule for the final weekend, which begins on Thursday, Nov. 19th and closes with two shows on Saturday the 21st. Get on over to Theatre on San Pedro Square, one of the coolest spaces in the city. Stop by Sonoma Chicken Coop, Peggy Sue's or the venerable Old Spaghetti Factory for a great preshow meal, and then enjoy the cherubic sounds from the Taffetas that live just a short stone's throw away. Get over to www.tabardtheatre.org for tickets and more details.

Sunnyvale Community Players continue their third weekend with "The Fantasticks." A show that the company is quite proud of for good reason, the Fantasticks runs for only two more weekends, Bay Area musical theatre directing connoisseur Walter M. Mayes handles the direction of the show. For a preview to read before you get out to Sunnyvale, click here.

The Sharks and the Jets continue the pirouettes in Saratoga with Bernstein, Sondheim and Laurents classic musical "West Side Story, produced by West Valley Light Opera.  For tickets and other information, click here.

Fresh off the critically acclaimed, deeply intense production of Ian Bruce's South African instant classic "Groundswell," San Jose Repertory Theatre takes a 180-degree turn and returns to the world of Red Ryder BB guns, frozen tongues and arguably the sexiest lamp in history. "A Christmas Story," the play based on the classic 1983 Jean Shepard film returns to the Rep. For tickets, go to www.sjrep.com.

Happy playgoing!
