Tomorrow night, Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry will bring his ensemble “The Joe Perry Project” to The Fillmore New York at Irving Plaza. Perry is currently on tour in support of his latest release Have Guitar, Will Travel, their first studio album since 1983’s Once a Rocker, Always a Rocker. Perry’s New York appearance coincides with the news that Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has apparently left the Aerosmith after almost forty years with the band.
As of late, the band was experiencing turmoil on their most recent tour with Tyler sustaining two injuries that made tensions between the members worse. Upon an appearance in Abu Dhabi on November 1st, the band parted ways with Perry returning home to read on the internet that Tyler was leaving the group. In an article for the Las Vegas Sun, Perry stated that he has reservations about the band continuing on without Tyler.
Perry further mentions that “as far as replacing Steve, it’s not just about that, it’s also four guys that play extremely well together, and I’m not going to see that go to waste.” Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford spoke openly about touring with a new singer. Whitford told a reporter “nobody could replace Steven or imitate him — he’s one of a kind, but if somebody was willing to do it and the chemistry was right, why not?”
Though with all the upheaval in the band, Perry’s latest album has been met with good reviews. The website Hollywood Reporter states in their review that “the star here is the titular guitar, which is as enjoyably unleashed as it's ever been on any Perry project.” Tomorrow’s concert begins at 9:00 PM.
