Aspen--the name rings a bell. Even if you've never been there before, you've probably heard of it, and for good reason. It is a playpen as well as a playground, a mountain for the original Ski bum as well as celebrities, a haven for hotties as much as headliners. The bottom line though is, you don’t have to be famous or even particularly rich to truly enjoy Aspen. Sure, the place has had more celebrities pass through than the Betty Ford Clinic. People from Bill Clinton to Jack Nicholson have skied on its slopes.

There are even celebrity shrines right on the mountain – Elvis Presley in a grove of trees just below Back of Bell 3 and Marilyn Monroe on a cat-track right above Elvis and Jerry. There is something magical about Aspen...its Victorian architecture; distinctive shops, five-star restaurants, and year-round adventures make it special. Aspen is an old mining town and strict building codes have helped it maintain its rustic charm. Aspen is not like most American Resorts a preplanned Ski resort, founded in the 1800s it is one of the few American resorts that has a real history and reminds you of European Ski resorts. It has character, charm and a real community. Culture and recreation are abundant in Aspen. The ski areas offer variety of terrain and personality.

There are a lot of misconceptions about Aspen, one, that it is only for the “ueber-wealthy” and second that this place is only for expert skiers. Most restaurants in town offer a bar menu which is typically half off the main dining room menu. Definitely great ways to dine on if you are watching your wallet. Four different mountains offer excellent choices for different ski levels. Aspen offers many top events during the winter season.

Bookmark Aspen as a premier party place. Its bar scene is so vibrant, it's a wonder people ever make it out to the slopes. Some, in fact, don't. Or at least they don't look as if the did, all dressed up at an Oscar party at a time when others are just coming down off the mountain. While in Aspen you have to visit the ultra-hip Sky Hotel, since this stylish hotel is also home to Aspen's hottest après ski lounge, the 39 Degrees bar. Adjacent to the 39 degrees lounge is an ultra-cool outside lounge area with heated swimming pool, Jacuzzi and cozy lounge chairs. Every evening at 5pm guests can enjoy their daily "altitude adjustment", a wine hour, served in the lobby furnished with cool sky-scraper-high oversized white leather chairs.
