Hump day, where time seems to slow down to a crawl, and many resort to piling on the espresso shots to stay in high gear.  The weekend is a far away as it gets; two days behind, two days in front.  Here are some ways that may naturally increase your energy level to survive the rest of the week:

 1. The air is free (for now)- breathe in greedily

Oxygen entering your bloodstream to invigorates your cells.  Maximize your intake by breaking up your workouts.  Do a couple of exercises in the morning, throw in a few flights of stairs at lunch, and get some cardio in post dinner.

 2. Travel back in time

Before electronics ruled our world (how did anything get done), job worries typically stayed at the job.  Cell phones, emails, and text messages did not intrude the home life.  It was a less stressful time.  Take at least an hour every day to completely separate from any and all electronic devices.  Check in and connect with your body; it's called relaxing.

 3. Lighten up

Our circadian rhythms are more sensitive to blue light than any other kind,” says Mariana Figueiro, assistant professor at the Lighting Research Center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y.  The sun provides this absolutely free of charge (for now).  Get outside as often as possible.

  4. Got a minute or three?

A short meditation break may be exactly what you need.  Take these few minutes early in the morning before the rush and mid-day after lunch.  Find a quiet place and breathe slowly and deeply.  Visualize your "happy place" and submerse yourself there.  It will improve your focus and revitalize you.  Just don't fall asleep.

  5. The night time is the right time

Before you go to bed turn down the temperature, but not low enough to get you cold.  Have some ambient noise created by a fan or humidifier to block out other potentially waking sounds.  Ensure it is as a dark as possible in the room. These habits will improve the quality of your sleep allowing you to wake up feeling refreshed.  All without a pill!
