Wildchild Wendy Williams' TV debut

Wendy Williams, host of the top-rated syndicated radio show The Wendy Williams Experience, and recent nominee for induction to the National Radio Hall of Fame, has now, as we all expected, crossed over---into television. The Wendy Williams Show debuted yesterday following a six week trial run last summer that was very successful.
Williams has made a name for herself with her brash, aggressive style of interviewing. She has no problems with asking her guests the tough and embarrassing questions. No question is off limits-the juicier and more scandalous the better.
One of the reasons the trial run of the show was so successful was the infamous Wendy Williams vs. Omarosa catfight. Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth, a contestant on The Apprentice parlayed her 15 minutes into another 30 minutes or so as the token “Bitch” reality celebrity. Omarosa rendered Williams speechless with her spit-fire attacks of both her persona and her attire- of course the wigs. In response to Williams claiming she is a bad representation of black women, Omarosa said “I'd rather be an angry black woman than a buffoon.”
Omarosa had intended on appearing on the show to promote her new book. Whether or not the confrontation was part of that promotion or not, we’ll never know.
Williams is even known to “out” celebrities without their consent or even their knowledge. As one can imagine, this has caused many to question her abilities as a journalist and frankly, her personhood. According to Williams, she’s simply doing her job as a journalist, and bringing newsworthy pieces to her audience. In a recent interview with
The Advocate she had this to say.
For people who are fortunate enough to have fans or anyone looking up to them, if they keep something in the closet, it’s like reminding their fans that it’s something to be ashamed of. Like me -- I’ve always had a nice crossover audience, but I am so proud of being a black woman, and I’m so proud to be flying that red, black, and green flag on TV. Being in the closet would be like me slouching because I’m six feet tall. Instead, I put on my heels and I’m six feet five. I can’t imagine not being proud of what you are.
While Williams is quick to dish about which celebrity had plastic surgery, which rapper is gay and any other question posed to her, she is also not afraid to put all her business out there either. She has publicly spoken about her cheating husband, her past addiction to cocaine and of course, the implants. She has also authored two New York Times best sellers, Wendy's Got The Heat by Simon & Schuster and The Wendy Williams Experience by Dutton Books.
Wendy has undoubtedly had great success as a radio host. Will that success cross over with her into television? I don’t know, but I’ll definitely be watching to find out. You can catch The Wendy Williams Show weekdays at 10:00am on Fox.
