Understanding your subconscious mind

Before I can get into the affirmation technique I mentioned in part 1, I will need to give you a very basic rundown of the subconscious mind and hypnosis so that you can get the most positive and optimal effect from the affirmation process.

I'm not going to get into a deep explanation as I would have to turn this into a 20 part series, lol.  Rather, I will give you a common example of hypnosis that has happened to almost all of us, yet you may not have been aware that you were actually in hypnosis when this happened to you.  And part of changing a habit is being aware of these unconscious thoughts, so that you can catch them early enough to change them before they result in a pattern of behavior that goes against what you want to achieve.

Have you ever been in a rush to get out of your home?   Maybe you have to go to work or you have an appointment that requires you to be on time.  You are stressed out and frustrated that you are running late.  You reach for your keys where you normally place them and they’re not there. You tell yourself, “I have to get out of here and I don’t see the keys anywhere.”  So you search through the house trying to find them but they’re not anywhere to be found.  That is, until you say something to yourself like – “This is ridiculous. They have to be around somewhere.”  Then bingo! They show up in a place you swore you already looked maybe two or three times.  Sometimes the keys may have been inside your pocket (or purse) and you still overlooked them.

So what happened there?  Well, first of all, when we put all our attention in one direction (finding the keys), we will have something called acceptable selective thinking” – this is actually ½ of the government definition of hypnosis.  In its basic essence, this simply means we are directing our conscious attention and focus, like a laser beam toward one goal (trying to find your keys).  Add to this emotion (frustration) and suggestion (I don’t see the keys anywhere), and you end up living the suggestion you are giving yourself.  In this particular instance, you can’t see something that’s there in front of your eyes (the keys) until you finally say something like, “They have to be around here some where” to replace the old suggestion, thus allowing you to finally see the keys that have been in front of you this entire time.

And, by the way, not being able to see your keys even though they were right in front of you is called a negative hallucination. A negative hallucination is one of the deepest states of hypnosis you can be in.  In this example you were not relaxed at all, which is a common myth about hypnosis.  In fact, you were the opposite of relaxed, but because you added emotion and imagination (both contained inside the Subconscious mind) to laser beem focus, you hypnotized yourself.  You even gave yourself suggestions that played out.

You see, it’s been said that we have about 60,000 thoughts in one day and that 90% of those thoughts are negative and useless.  Understanding hypnosis and the subconscious mind will help you turn that percentage around!  It will help you understand when you are in a “trance” or in an unconscious pattern, so that you can be aware of when these situations happen in your life.

You should understand that awareness is a must to change perceptions and behaviors that goes against your truest desires.

So this week, see if you can be aware of unconscious perceptions, which in the past, would result in a behavior that went against your goals.  If you’d like to share them please feel free to comment below.  I may be able to use it in an article to help you move past old blocks so you can move toward your heart’s desires.
