Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket Island are truly beautiful and magical destinations. They are also expensive places to spend the day. If you can't make it to an island or the National Seashore on Cape Cod then head over to Carson Beach.
Take the T (As we call it but it's full name is the MBTA) to the area we call Southie (South of Boston) to Carson Beach. Carson Beach is a public beach which has been given new life with Carson Beach has been given new life which includes a renovated bathhouse with restrooms, changing rooms, and showers. There are drinking water fountains, chess tables, and bocce courts.
A long walk will along Dorchester Bay will take you to Fort Independence. The water is clean unlike the mid 90s when we didn't dare to even dip a toe Carson Beach is part of a three mile segment of parks along Southie's shoreline.
The closest subway stop is the JFK/UMass (John F. Kennedy/University of Massachusetts) station on the Red Line which is about 1/2 mile away. Go to the JFK library if you have never been. Most of all enjoy Boston's best city find - Carson Beach.
