Nautilus has many reincarnations of their machines. The Bowflex Ultimate 2 Home Gym has been recalled by the thousands. In fact 78,000 machines have been recalled. Eighteen reports of injuries caused by unlatched seat rails that have fallen have resulted in head and shoulder lacerations, some requiring stitches.
The seat, which must be fastened manually, is designed to be latched in a vertical position for storage.
It was the second time less than two years that the company has recalled the Bowflex Ultimate 2 Home Gyms. In December 2007 68,000 Ultimate 2 Home Gyms were recalled after reports of injury related to fasteners that failed to hold parts of the equipment in place.
Owners may continue to use their home gyms for exercising, but should not place the seat rail in its upright storage position until it is repaired. Repair kits are being sent to registered owners.
It is ironic because we are in the market for a home gym. We just got an elliptical machine and we are now having a hard time finding the perfect gym. My husband didn't like the bows of the Bowflex although the machine has a lot of features and if it works properly is a decent home gym. These recalls may I think do in Bowflex. They are not inexpensive costing over $2,000 unless you can find one used or on eBay. There are many decent home gyms you might like for a lot less money that have not been recalled.
I reviewed the Ab Coaster about which you may want to read.
