
Perhaps if orthopedic surgeon, Bill Rogers, has his way. As an official with the International Skiing Federation and as a doctor he thinks 260 acres of land owned by Augusta would lead to better health for its residents' and a better economy.
Rogers hopes the ski center could be free to the public to help among other things the fact that Maine has one of the highest rates of obesity in children in the country! Bill Rogers said he'd like the Augusta ski center to be free to the public.
"Nordic skiing is the second most aerobic activity (next to rowing) there is, and it can be a life-long activity," Rogers told the Morning Sentinel today.
This project will cost about a million dollars. A non-profit corporation is being started to raise funds.
