Need your sushi fix but realize your wallet has only a couple of bucks in it? Well never fear - I've discovered what I would call "fast food sushi" right here in West LA.  Now for $3 a plate (and that is any and all plates), you may suspect that this sushi isn't fresh, or you may eat it and go home and be in the bathroom all night or what not - but I can tell you two days after eating here, I am quite healthy and excited I found a cheap sushi joint!
Sushi Mac (this particular location I dined at is on Sawtelle & Olympic) is a small restaurant where you can dine on sushi and your favorite rolls for about half the price of most other restaurants.  Walking in, you are greeted with a square counter where guests sit around the sushi men.  The music is pretty bumping (in fact it states that on the "rules of the restaurant" - if you're not okay with the loud music then leave because loud music is policy!) Sushi Mac is hip, young and loud - but I think the loud music is the appeal of the restaurant because you feel more urban or hip or what not - kind of like eating "sushi for the people" or something.
Sushi Mac offers all the usual favorites - ahi to salmon to unagi sushi as well as spicy tuna rolls, dynamite rolls, california rolls and what not. If you're looking for sashimi  - well you may be out of luck since they don't offer sashimi (but I guess you could be like me and just order sushi and take off the meat!) Obviously the sushi isn't the most fresh I've ever eaten but it does satisfy your need for sushi at an affordable price.
By the end of the meal you'll probably have a stack of plates in front of you (you keep the plates so at the end you count them up and tell the server who'll do the math), so it's really fast, affordable and fun.  Be aware, however, that Sushi Mac is cash only - so if you need an atm, there is one around the corner.
In all, Sushi Mac is a great place to get your sushi fix for a cheap price. Obviously it's not the greatest sushi you'll ever have but if you're itching for a fresh spicy tuna or eel and cucumber roll - this is the place to go for a fast and cheap meal.
Final Thoughts:
Overall: Cheap yet fresh sushi - it beats buying sushi from the box at the supermarket (which isn't as fresh and probably a couple of bucks more)
Atmosphere: Hip and fun - I like the loud music!
"mmmmm" factor (out of 5 m's): mmm 1/2
