The BBQ pork Banh Mi

So as part of my "try every food truck in LA" extravangza, I knew that I had to find Nom Nom Truck and taste their "Banh Mi", which is a Vietnamese sandwich.  I absolutely love Banh Mi so when I heard this truck was rolling through town - I knew it was a matter of time before they rolled up by me and I could taste what they had to offer.

I got my entire work to take a field trip with me to Nom Nom Truck (I anticipated this lunch a week in advance, thanks to their up to the minute twitter), and I knew exactly what I wanted to order.

Being it was around lunch hour, when we got to Nom Nom Truck it wasn't very crowded so we were able to order immediately.  I opted for the combo meal, which included a 6-inch sandwich, 2 tacos and a drink for $7 (who could beat that?) If you just want a sandwich it's $5, and a taco is $2.50 (although you can get 2 tacos for $4).

I ordered the BBQ pork Banh Mi as well as a grilled pork taco and a lemongrass chicken taco.  My food came out a couple of minutes after and I was excited to what I was going to try.

At first bite of my lemongrass chicken, I thought it was really good.  I liked the fresh ingredients so I didn't feel weighed down.  The meat was tender, however the sauce made the tortilla a bit soggy so it broke almost immediately.  The grilled pork was actually really good. I had huge pieces of meat and they were tender and did not have too much fat on them.  However, I did get a taco with a lot of grease - so my hands definately needed to be wiped down multiple times as I was trying to finish my taco.  Also, it was really spicy so it had a lot of heat with every bite.  The tacos themselves are really filling and for me - I love me an Asian/Mexican fusion dish so I was all about the tacos.

I moved on to the BBQ pork Banh Mi (which I was told by the guy working the truck was their most popular) and I must say it was pretty good.  The baguette the sandwich was served on was really flaky yet soft, and it had a great texture on its own.  I felt that the sauce was a tad bit too sweet for my liking, so it took me a while to finish my sandwich.  However, I completely understand the sweetness juxtaposed with the heat of the dish is the Vietnamese tradition so I did enjoy the sandwich (I just personally don't like my sandwiches too sweet).  Again, however, I had some really tender and juicy chunks of pork in my sandwich so I knew I was getting a lot for the price of my meal.

In all, I liked Nom Nom Truck.  I thought it was really good and the pieces of meat were tender and juicy - it was a great first experience.  I really dug the tacos and the baguette made the sandwich really filling but I didn't feel too heavy.  With fresh ingredients and a friendly green truck - I'll definately be back.

Final Thoughts:

Overall: Great food truck - I really liked the amount of meat in all of my dishes.  I'm surprised there wasn't a wait (but that was better for me!)

Atmosphere: It's a bright green food truck - you can't miss it!

"mmmmm" factor (out of 5 m's): mmmm
