Garth Woodside Mansion is "witching" guests a Happy Hallo-Wine this weekend. Photo from Garth Mansion. Yes it’s last minute, but it’s not too late to book a flight to St. Louis, MO and drive an hour north to Hannibal, MO, for the Garth Woodside Mansion’s Hallo-Wine dinner. According to Airfare Watchdog (a great source for the lowest fares), you can jump on a flight from Boston to St. Louis for $198 round trip. Hotwire lists cars from St. Louis for under $20 a day.

Head just an hour north to the Garth Woodside Mansion, filled with Mark Twain history from yesterday and romantic, fun amenities of today. Best of all, go this weekend and you’ll get in on the Hallo-Wine package that features a four-course gourmet meal with specially selected wine pairings including Halloween favorites like Toad Hallow and Vampire Wine (I’m sure that must be a red!) After dinner, you’ll get in the spirit of a historic Halloween with a classic silent movie night in the parlor.

For Garth’s overnight guests the dinner is $25 pp. Costumes are encouraged and prizes will be awarded for the best, so be sure to get into the spirit of it. You can bet that co-owners Julie and John Rolsen will be dressed to the nines in their Halloween attire.

Hannibal, MO, made famous by author Samuel Clemens, aka Mark Twain and his tales of Huck Finn, is one of the famed haunts of the Midwest. Even now, more than a century after Twain’s “A Ghost Story,” reports from those living and traveling to Hannibal prove that similar odd happenings continue today. Located along the banks of the mighty Mississippi, Hannibal’s tales of ghosts are almost as common as the river barges that travel through the town.

Steeped in history, Historic Rockcliffe Mansion offers tours of the haunted mansion. Rockliffe Mansion photo. Another great idea for Halloween is Historic Rockliffe Mansion, which offers haunted mansion tours followed by a haunted Hannibal trolley tour. You can even stay in this boo-tiful mansion, if you dare! The trolley and walking tours highlight the spookiest places in Hannibal, and even shed some light on the comings and goings of Hannibal’s favorite native son, Mark Twain.
