Movie theaters playing Precious are hard to find today. Precious movie showings at theaters are few and far between today unfortunately, and those willing to play the film haven't become wide-spread at this time. That leaves the search for theaters that are playing Precious to be a tough task. This link though, could help potential viewers find theaters that are playing Precious by merely typing in the zip code to their locations in the box to the ride side of the web page. The search might take a couple of tries as well, because the release of Precious hasn't gone wide yet, and probably won't until the film can prove that it's going to bring in the viewers.
Precious is a film based on the novel Push by Sapphire, and takes place in Harlem. The plot for Precious revolves around an overweight and illiterate teen that is pregnant with her second child. This girl is invited to enroll in an alternative school with the goal of putting her life in a new direction, and the film covers part of that struggle. There are some recognizable people in the cast, including Mariah Carey, Sherri Shepherd, Lenny Kravitz, and Mo'Nique, but the star of the show is Gabourey Sidibe in the role of Precious, who is definitely taking part in her break-out film role here.
If Precious can draw people into the limited theaters that it is opening in this weekend, it’s possible that the film could go to a wider audience in the coming weeks. The problem is that it is up against some pretty big Hollywood films this week and next, and that it could get buried by people choosing for more escapism than real life depiction in the theaters. Brooklyn will receive the film on November 13th, and other cities its coming as a case by case basis. If your theater isn't looking to show Precious in the near future, request the film to be brought in, because that's the best way to ensure that the film makes it to your area. If the theaters know that there is a demand to see the movie, they are more likely to put in the effort to bring it locally.
Right now Precious isn't in enough theaters to reach a wide audience, but the reviews have been pretty positive so far, and that could lead to the movie making it to more and more theaters as the weeks go by. Hopefully, in the end, everyone that wants to see it in theaters will be given the chance, but the distribution is still limited as of November 6th.
