George Mason University just released a survey ranking states from "freest to least free."  Colorado placed second freest overall.  According to George Mason, the motto of New Hampshire "Live Free or Die," is well deserved.  New Hampshire ranked as the freest state overall.  The top 10 freest states were:

1. New Hampshire
2. Colorado
3. South Dakota
4. Idaho
5. Texas
6. Missouri
7. Tennessee
8. Arizona
9. Virginia
10.  North Dakota

George Mason's Hall of Shame, 10 least free states started with the Big Apple:

50.  New York
49.  New Jersey
48.  Rhode Island
47.  California
46.  Maryland
45.  Hawaii
44.  Washington
43.  Massachussetts
42.  Illinois
41.  Connecticut
40.  Vermont

The overall rankings were based on rankings in the areas of freedom extant in fiscal policy (Colorado ranked #5), regulatory policy (#11), economic freedom (#3), and personal freedom (#16).  Alaska blew all of the other states away in the personal freedom rankings.
