There was talk the end of analog television would signal the beginning of price hikes for digital and HDTV sets, as consumers of analog would have to choose among subscribing to cable, satellite, or hooking up a digital converter to continue to receive programming.

But some industry groups say that's all it was - just talk.

Henry Wang, head of market research firm WitsView Technology in Taipei, said recently prices were depressed partly because of falling demand and mostly due to the global economic slump - which, one can reason, was behind the falling demand.

But Wang said customer demand is increasing, and prices are likely to move upward.

"Customer demand is getting stronger," Wang said. "We expect price increases to pick up pace in May."

A quick check of ads on some online sites shows prices aren't making the jump just yet - Amazon and Overstock are two sites that have had promotional sales on big-screen TVs in recent weeks.

A report from DisplaySearch, a U.S. market research firm, said Vizio continues to be the best-selling brand in North America among LCD TVs.
