Bad Company Stages Triumphant Return at Jones Beach

So-called Reunion tours have become all the rage in the past several years. Touring as ‘nostalgia acts,’ long defunct bands such as Journey, Poison, and Motley Crue have been raking in cash on summer amphitheater tours. This past Sunday, it was rock legends Bad Company who took the stage at Jones Beach, and brought the music of classic rock radio to life.
Frontman Paul Rodgers was nothing short of brilliant as the group blasted through hit after hit, effortless hitting long, powerful notes as he twirled his mic stand about with all the dexterity of a ninja master. The largely baby boomer crowd happily sang along to the hits of their youth, as the group performed powerful renditions of monster hits such as Simple Man and Feel Like Making Love.
For an aging group, the music was played flawlessly, without a single missed note and with crystal clear sound. The only complaint was the concert’s relatively short length, with the band leaving the stage after playing for less than an hour. They returned for a fantastic encore performance of their self titled mega-hit, Bad Company, which had everyone in the audience singing along to the classic rock anthem. Still, when the house lights came on it was only 10 pm, making it one of the shortest headlining rock shows this fan has ever attended.
Still, given the age of the band, it was a stunning performance from a group considered dead and gone just a few years back. The current tour has only 10 dates, and there is no mention of any future plans. Those fortunate enough to be at Jones Beach Sunday night were privileged to be witness to a truly awe-inspiring comeback, and with any luck the group will decide to do an even more extensive tour next summer.
