As it has finally gotten hot in the city, you can’t be cooler in Minneapolis than if you are hanging out on the roof of several swanky establishments, enjoying great eats and the beverage of your choice. Here’s a quick rundown of where the roofs are hot:

Joe’s Garage
1610 Harmon Pl
Minneapolis, MN 55403
(612) 904-1163

The rooftop at Joe’s is an oldie but a goody! It has beautiful views of Downtown Minneapolis, Loring Park and of the Basilica of St Mary. There’s a long list of martini choices, gourmet burgers, and garlic mashed potatoes that are almost a meal unto themselves. To be ultra cool, come here on a weekend morning for brunch on the roof.

moto-i
2940 Lyndale Ave
Minneapolis, MN 55408-2110
(612) 821-6262

The new kid on the rooftop scene, but according to rave reviews, it’s an instant contender! Featuring one of the best unobstructed views of the Minneapolis skyline, it’s the only place in the world outside of Kyoto, Japan where you can sip handcrafted sakes brewed on site. The Japanese and Korean small plates are delectable and just the light fare you are looking for on a sweltering summer’s eve.

Stella’s Fish Café & Prestige Oyster Bar
1402 W Lake St
Minneapolis, MN 55408
(612) 824-8862

This one set the bar in Uptown. The roof has great views and good food and drinks. It’s only knock is that it’s too hard to get into on a weekend night. It was first in the area, and set itself up as the place to be scene. If you can get in early and stake out a table to keep all night, then you’ll be set. The oysters provide the perfect aphrodisiac for a summer crowd on the prowl.

Drink
510 1st Ave N # 301
Minneapolis, MN 55403-1651
(612) 659-9000

Let’s face it, no one comes to Drink for food and ambience – as your view is of the sides of buildings. You come to Drink for the drink specials. Luckily Drink has the bar and waitstaff that are proficient in slinging the beverages. Come and get your drink on!

Seven Skybar
700 Hennepin Avenue
Minneapolis, MN 55403
(612) 238-7777

It is the place to see and be seen. You are up in the air in downtown Minneapolis and surrounded by the majestic skyscrapers. You could just as easily feel you are on the roof a club in Miami or some other Cosmopolitan city. Bring your bankroll and try the finer things in life.

Red, White, & “effing” Blue Bar at the Chambers (yes they use the other word than “effing”)
901 Hennepin Ave
Minneapolis, MN 55403
(612) 767-6900

Forget it. You are not this hip! The überscenesters with trophymates dripping off them are the crowd that is here hoping to be noticed. If at Seven you need to bring your bankroll, here you need to bring your banker. A gorgeous view of Minneapolis’ Theater district makes this a fun stop for a nightcap after a show, and you can feel as though you are almost at a Broadway afterparty where some Vogue Models will drop by.

Let me know if you have a favorite roof for us to come and hang out on. Our only prerequisites is that the beverages are cold!
