Smashburger satisfies in spite of local marketing efforts leaving a bad taste
Smashburger seems to have recovered quickly from a series of missteps and snafus surrounding their local marketing and PR efforts. A gas leak put the kibosh on free eats from the Smashburger-mobile and guests were invited out with coupons on either a wrong date, or the wrong time, only to find the place closed.
The Denver based chain has been getting some rave reviews in spite of these early hiccups. The first of several planned Smashburger locations is now open at 3900 Silver Lake Road in St. Anthony, MN. The St. Anthony restaurant marks the company’s 13th location nationwide and the latest in the restaurant’s aggressive national expansion.
Smashburger defines their offering as a “better” burger consisting of a third or half pound of certified Angus beef (fresh, never frozen), smashed on the grill to seal in a superior juicy flavor. Diners can then choose from several options: choice of bun, cheese, sauce, and a variety of tempting toppings like haystack onions, guacamole or even a fried egg.
The restaurant also serves up Smashchicken sandwiches, Smashdogs, and Smashsalads, with sides like veggie frites and rosemary and garlic–seasoned Smashfries. Burger lovers can pair their meals with beer, wine, Häagen-Dazs shakes, and root-beer floats. The chain has made some customizations to their menu to create a “Twin Cities” version of their Smashburger topped with layers of melted cheddar bar cheese, Swiss cheese, and garlic grilled onions with lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise on a butter-toasted onion bun. They are also offering up a Tailgate Smashbrat, a Johnsonville® Beer Bratwurst split and seared on the grill, topped with garlic grilled onions, spicy brown mustard, and melted cheddar bar cheese on a lightly toasted poppy seed bun. Summit beer and Grain Belt Premium is also on the menu as a nod to the local crowd.
The burger market has recently heated up in the twin citeis with the recent additions of Smashburger, a Five Guys Burger location in Edina, and Minnesota based Parasole Restaurant Group's first Burger Jones concept.
