Saturday April 18th, 2009 was the annual get together forrecord store appreciation day. I was able to go out and get to a store to check out the days festivities. Main Street music is located on Main street in the heart of the ever so lively Manayunk section of Philadelphia. On what was a spectacular day outside, on the inside Philadelphia's own Good Old War were getting ready to deliver a set of songs from their debut cd Only way to be alone.
Record stores still offer such a wholesome feeling that you can not understand unless you are inside of one. They are rich in history. Also they were practically the only way someone could purchase music years ago yet now with the Internet and retail stores like Best Buy and such their are very few stores that are still left standing. Main Street music is one of those stores that offers that feeling and I for one was impressed with the place.
Around 2 P.M. Keith, Dan, and Tim took stage and played for around 40 minutes, they played tracks from their above listed debut cd and also threw in a very good cover of Simon and Garfunkel's Cecilia and they also introduced their new song Sinking Ship which will be a part of their new EP which will be dropping in a few months from now.
A local band helping out a local store just goes to show that not all bands have forgotten about one of the birthplaces of music, it was a great sight to be able to see so many people packed into one small area of space to not only browse for music but to also be introduced to a great band at the same time.
