Matel and toy manufacturers to settle California lead paint toy case

Apparently, Matel, Inc. and eight other toy companies agreed to pay $1.9 million to settle a California enforcement law suit over lead-contaminated toys. Interestilngly, California is using the money to fund toy companies' compliance with toy lead safety rules.

Lead presents a well-known hazard to kids. Much of the safety concerns from child lead poisoning focused on lead paint.  The recent toy problems were pegged to Chinese manufacturers and included both lead paint and some lead magnets.
