In case you thought Jazzercise was a thing of the 80's, it's trying to ride on the success of ABC TV show Dancing With The Stars by hiring one of it's former 2-time champion Cheryl Burke as their newest spokeswoman.
“We believe a partnership between Jazzercise and Cheryl Burke drives a compelling message of health and fitness to women of all ages,” said Jazzercise founder and President/CEO Judi Sheppard Missett. “Additionally, it spotlights the powerful and fun way that dance enhances fitness levels leading to an active, healthy lifestyle."
The partnership includes TV and print ad campaigns, online programs and a featured Cheryl Burke for Fit Couture collection in the company’s Jazzertogs apparel catalog and online store at jazzercise.com.

Cheryl and Jazzercise will aim raise awareness about the health benefits of dancing. “Dance provides a unique, fun and effective total body workout,” said Burke. Unlike exercises programs like Jillian Michaels, the jazzercise aims to incorporate fun into fitness.
Although the company may struggle to drop the silly connotations jazzercise has come to be associated with, like "jazz hands."
UPDATE: I think hiring Cheryl Burke is a fabulous fit. At Examiner.com we try not to use the first person narrative, so I kept my thoughts out. I think it's a realistic way to get young girls to exercise. It's fun and hiring Cheryl Burke will give it a young fun new twist that will hopefully break free from the stereotype allowing impressionable, self conscious young girls to try it!
