Former Milwaukee Panther men's basketball player Joah Tucker, who scored 32 for Milwaukee in the 2005 Sweet 16 and was named First Team All-Horizon League in 2005 and 2006, was selected by the Iowa Energy in the fifth round of the NBA Developmental League draft on Thursday night.
After his final year at Milwaukee, Tucker was invited to the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, a tournament comprised of graduating seniors hoping to catch the attention of professional scouts. After going undrafted, he was invited to training camp with the Miami Heat, but he did not make the final roster.
After being released by the Heat, Tucker averaged 12.8 points and 5.4 rebounds for Le Havre in France. He was then invited to participate in NBA Summer League with the Detroit Pistons in the summer of 2007, but once again he was unable to make the final roster. He spent another season in France, this time with Limoges CSP Elite.
Finally, last season Tucker played another season in France, this time with San-Quinten. He averaged 14.5 points on 56% shooting, though he shot just 24% from beyond the three-point arc.
He is the second Panther, and ironically the second Panther with the last name "Tucker" to play in the D-League. Clay Tucker, who was named the Horizon League's Most Valuable Player in addition to being named to the All-Horizon League First Team and League All-Defensive team, played for the Arkansas Rimrockers from 2005-2007. The elder tucker currently plays alongside Cleveland Cavaliers 2009 first round draft choice Christian Eyenga on Joventut Badelona, where Ricky Rubio played last year.
The Energy were an expansion team in the D-League last season, and were lead by former UIC player Othuys Jeffers, who performed well in NBA Summer League as a member of the NBADL All-Stars before signing in Europe.
Others former Horizon Leagueers picked in the D-League draft include Pete Campbell of Butler, Chris Hayes of Detroit, and J'Nathan Bullock of Cleveland State.
