Overweight and obese Americans already consume 66% of the population. Yet another risk has broken out in the health industry that directly relates waist size to increased risk of adult-onset asthma.
Female teachers in California were given questionaires to fill out regarding their height, weight, waist size, age and asthma related symptoms. As a result of this questionaire it was found that women with the same BMI but a waist size of >88cm had a higher risk of asthma compared to those with smaller waistlines.
As a result, weight alone cannot be a determining factor in one's risk of adult-onset asthma, but it is more clearly related when fat distribution around the waist is measured.
