Ok, so you may of heard of the Beyonce Detox, Lemon Detox or Maple Syrup Detox. They are all decedents of the Master Cleanse originally created by Stanley Burroughs in 1941. He sought out to create a formula to rid stomach ulcers and realized it also had the effects of weight loss when used over a period of time. It never really hit mainstream until 2004, when Peter Glickman wrote Lose Weight, Have More Energy & Be Happier in 10 Days. Celebrities like Beyonce Knowles, Scott Campbell and Jared Letto have completed the detox which gave it even more popularity.
So what does the Master Cleanse have to do with better sex? Apparently it claims to improve sexual stamina. This is of course not backed up by any scientific evidence, just written in Glickman's book so it must be true, right? No, not at all.
The detox entails you to essentially drink a formula made up of lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper and hot or cold water for 10 days and eat nothing else. With no solid food and very low calorie intake, your body will begin to lose water and break down muscle for fuel. So yes, you may lose weight, but is this the kind of weight that you really want to lose?
There are some side effects to the Master Cleanse including headaches, constipation and overall lack of energy. To increase sexual stamina you would want to be feeling energetic, not run down and irritable. You may feel a temporary high in self esteem by losing a few pounds, but this will quickly fall back to where you started once the detox is over.
So if you're looking for a way to improve your sex life and lose some weight as well, skip the detox and start an exercise routine with your partner. You will find it very hard to resist each other after a sweaty heart pumping workout. Try it, you'll see.
