“The Colbert Report” is officially the new sponsor of the U.S. Olympic Speedskating Team. Losing their old sponsorship of DSB Bank due to the declaration of bankruptcy, the team was in danger of not having enough funds to cover their competition in the upcoming Vancouver Winter Olympics. Stephen Colbert came to the rescue on Monday when he signed the paperwork that the team’s executive director, Bob Crowley, brought out. Gold Medallist, Dan Jansen, was interviewed to confirm that it would be devastating if the U.S. couldn’t compete. The winter sport takes home more gold medals for the United States than any other event in the Winter Olympics.
If you’re interested in donating to the team sponsorship, the link is up at colbertnation.com. However, it wasn’t available on the site until Tuesday, so those who tried to donate had to wait. Colbert speculated it was the work of Canadian hackers. His comedic proof was a note that said, “Sorry about this.” $40,000 was the tally of donations as of Tuesday’s broadcast. Stephen Colbert proclaimed, “With your help, we will send our men and women and their enormous quadriceps to Vancouver and GLORY!”
