Unless you are totally hooked on NBC's The Biggest Loser AND happen to be a New Yorker, I guess this doesn't qualify as a Top NY News item.
But I just couldn't help myself. Last night's live finale proved my favorite saying: "The Karma train makes all stops!"
The smokin' hot Michelle from Fort Worth, TX beat out her evil rivals Vicky, Heba and Ed to take home the $250,000 cash prize; and no doubt an endorsement deal from "Subway."
Icky Vicky claims that viewers hate her so much that she's been receiving death threats. She lost by one pound.
Heba's fate is just as delicious. Even with hubby Ed pleading to America to vote for his Heba onto the finale, 84% voted for Ed!
Or did we? If you are not a media professional, you might have missed it.
Heba is voted off the show by Americans. Voters picked her hubby, Ed, by a staggering 5 to 1 margin. Yet, going into the commercial break, the voiceover dude tells us to stay tuned for the final weigh-in to see if Michelle, Vicky or Heba is The Biggest Loser.
Do NBC suits realize at show time how much viewers really hate Heba and fix the vote? Or does hostess/soap opera star Allison read the results wrong? Without a Congressional inquiry, we may never know.
There's no doubt all of the contestants (even Icky Vicky) are real and have done something incredible -- but you have to wonder.
Michelle deserved to win. She did the work and did it with integrity. But you media literates out there in TV land probably noticed that in the video "up close and personal" segments before the final weigh-in, Michelle's included a product placement - Subway - with a glowing endorsement for the footlong veggie sub. Sounds to me that the producers had already picked the winner before last night's live show.
As previously discussed in this space, the nation's media outlets are in BIG trouble. Budget cuts are now starting to seep through the product, not unlike Heba's tacky undergarments last night.
This live show had so many gaffes, errors, missteps and product placements, it made us wonder if there were college interns running the show (no offense to interns, of course).
