At times, Elena’s Soul comes at you like a mellow rift from a seasoned jazz veteran’s muted trumpet. At other times, the pleading stories of a down home blues band are heard over the quiet conversations of a young, college-aged audience, while at another time, offerings from an eclectic mix of urban hip-hop and spoken word artists are heard interacting with a live band during one of many spontaneous jam sessions.

Formerly known as Leroy’s Showcase Lounge located in the Cedar Park neighborhood on West Philly’s Baltimore Avenue, Elena’s Soul has made the transformation from the former lounge known for its jazz offerings to a full range venue for today’s contemporary sounds – jazz, hip-hop, R&B, reggae and spoken word.

Open seven days a week from 3 PM to 2 AM, Elena’s Soul is quickly making its mark as one of the city’s top must visit spots. Elena’s engaging hosts makes you fell welcome, and even better, the prices pushes you to stay and order even more. With drink categories named Kismit Kosmo Martini to Caribbean Souls, prices are modestly ranged from $3 to $6.

The soul food menu features fish, chicken and chops and the sides include collard greens, candied yams, mac and cheese and other tasty choices. A platter with two sides go for $9.

The sights, sounds and vibes however, continue to serve as Elena’s Soul’s centerpiece that draws customers of all age ranges, ethnicity and income levels. A typical week at this place offers a cornucopia of musical tastes.
