Lexington is often thought of as little more than a college town. Between the University of Kentucky, Transylvania University and the rather large number of community colleges that litter the city, it's no wonder that a large portion of the population consists of 20-somethings for a majority of the year. It's also no wonder that many of these Lexingtonians believe that the only place to have a good time is in one of the many bars that can be found on nearly every corner downtown.
The Fishtank often has people standing outside waiting to get in - as does Mia's. Chinoe Pub and Shamrock's are two other popular bars in the area.
But who really wants to spend all of their time in a bar? Surely Lexington holds some other gems...a few places that are maybe a bit quieter and designed for a completely different kind of fun.
How about visiting The Mad Potter on Tate's Creek Road? Painting pottery together might seem a little juvenile but imagine how much fun it would be to get your hands dirty while making something silly for your partner. Of course, painting pottery isn't the only thing to do at the Mad Potter. They also let you work with glass or make silver jewelry. You could even paint a picture and have it printed on a T-shirt!
Miniature golf is another fun outing a lot of people forget about. Lexington hosts its very own Bible-themed mini golf course. The great thing about this golf course (aside from the fact that it's connected to the the ice center which means you could enjoy a nice go around the ice rink when you're done golfing!) is that it doesn't matter if you happen to be religious or not for any of the three courses featured here to be fun. Aside from the slightly fishy smell near the hole that represents Jesus' resurrection, this is a fun place to enjoy some time with just about anyone.
Lexington also has several parks to enjoy. Shillito Park has a ready made Frisbee Golf course set up throughout its grounds. Jacobson Park has a wonderful pond you can fish in or enjoy a nice picnic next to. Within the downtown area of Lexington, you would even find a place called Triangle Park. During the warmer months, there are beautiful fountains set up that are fun to sit next to and just watch (plus, it's within walking distance of several bars if you absolutly insist on going to one).
