An autopsy will be done today to determine what caused the death of a 20-year-old man whose body was found by Old Wire Road near West Columbia.
The body of James Wilbur Lybrand, III, 20, of 3384 Old Charleston Road in Gilbert, was found about 5 a.m. Sunday, officials said.
Investigators suspect foul play in Lybrand's death, adding that his death does not appear to be random, according to a press release from the Lexington County Sheriff's Department.
However, the cause and manner of Lybrand’s death remain under investigation.
A woman who lives in the 600 block of Old Wire Road called the Lexington County Sheriff's Department at 5:08 a.m. and reported that a person was lying along the road.
Lexington County Emergency Medical Services and Lexington County Fire Service officials responded to the call, found Lybrand lying along the road and determined at 5:11 a.m. on Sunday that Lybrand was dead, Sheriff James R. Metts said.
At that point, sheriff's deputies arrived on scene.
