The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) is bringing outreach and activism to a whole new level. On four separate occasions in the next two months, GLAAD’s president, Jarrett Barrios, will be hosting a live nationwide video conference in order to organize and discuss strategies for continuing the battle for equality.
GLAAD is reaching out to supporters for help. The organization is requesting that volunteers throw house parties on the dates of the web chats. When the web chat begins, the party hosts will tune in, allowing their entire party to participate in the discussion. As an added incentive, GLAAD will be offering all party hosts with 6 or more guests the chance to win two VIP tickets to the GLAAD Media Awards. The winner will choose the award ceremony location they would like to attend; Los Angeles, CA, New York, NY, or San Francisco, CA. The party hosts’ names will be entered into a drawing and the winners will be revealed during their respective video conferences.
House parties full of GLBT community members and straight supporters from all over the country will be present for these video conferences, offering different perspectives, ideas, and potential solutions to issues facing the GLBT community today. The dates for these live video conferences are November 2nd, November 4th, November 17th, and December 14th. All of these chats will take place at 8pm Eastern and Mountain time, and 7pm Central and Pacific time.
