Edgar Allan Poe visits Cincinnati Shakespeare Company starting Saturday, October 24th. Giles Davies' one-man show, 'Poe,' will run for three weekends, ending Sunday, November 8th.
Poe (1809-1849) is considered the father of the modern detective story and is one of the most famous horror writers of all time. His stories tend to focus on the dark nature of his characters and those aspects of the human psyche in which people tend not to look too closely for very long lest it drive them mad. His parents died before he was three-years old and so he grew up obsessing about death, violence, and the disturbing qualities of fate, all of which are prevalent themes in almost all of his works. This year marks the 200th anniversary of Poe's birth.
His works, chilling in their literary form, may scare you all the more through Giles Davies' portrayal. Mr. Davies' production features several of the master's classics including 'The Masque of the Red Death' and 'Annabel Lee.'
