Eric Holder knows 83,000 hate crimes have occurred in the past decade against gays, women, Blacks and Hispanics. He doesn't know how many hate crimes have occurred against the military. Because Eric Holder doesn't know, this lack of historic evidence means, in spite of a recent shooting of an army recruiter by a Muslim, the military doesn't need protection against hate crimes under the law. Eric Holder's testimony at a recent Senate Judiciary hearing.
There is a certain element of hate, I suppose.... on historic basis...groups of people (are) singled out for who they are. We don't have a record of the military being targeted...
Holder could not cite a trend among states for failing to go after crimes. 45 states do have hate crime legislation. When questioned about the lack of prosecution by the states, which would imply Congressional legislation might be necessary, Holder was evasive.
What we are looking for are those rare instances...where the state inability or unwillingness, the federal government would be able to fill the gap...
Filling the gap like failing to prosecute Black Panthers who showed up at polling sites, clubs in hand.
Rare instances of hate crimes against favored groups deserve an Act of Congress so the feds can fill the gap. Rare instances of hate crimes against the military don't count.
Hate crimes, in the World According to Holder, only count when committed against certain groups. He believes "everyone agrees."
Everyone, except perhaps, the family of that dead guy in Arkansas.
